Welcome to Kicking Horse Ski Resort

If nothing but sheer chutes and gnarly gullies will do, Kicking Horse, just outside of Golden, British Columbia, is home to some of Canada’s steepest skiing.

Combine this with 60km of black runs, fast lifts, and powder dumps by the mountain load, and you’ve one hell of an advanced skiers’ paradise. Not to mention the off-piste scene is super sweet too.

There is a handful of nursery slopes and gentle blue runs if you have newbies with you, too, but gung-ho powderhounds will get the biggest thrills at this world-class ski resort.

Best time to ski in Kicking Horse

Kicking Horse is one of Canada’s smaller ski resorts, so it’s the ideal spot for a short break while touring the country. Midweek is also a good shout to avoid an influx of locals during the weekends. The main snow season runs from December to April, but mid-January is powder primetime and typically quieter. Let it snow! And keep an eye out for dates of the Freeride World Tour in February to watch some of the best skiers and snowboarders rip it up on the mountain.

Things to do in Kicking Horse

The apres ski vibe in Kicking Horse is laidback and mellow. Kick-back in a local bar for a relaxed pint, and top up your energy levels with excellent homemade grub. One of the most popular hangouts is the Eagle’s Eye. Set at a lofty 2300 metres, this must-visit mountain restaurant boasts magnificent views over the jagged peaks of the Rockies - get your camera ready for that Insta-worthy shot! For extra fun off the slopes, snow tubing, snowshoeing and guided snowmobile adventures will keep everyone entertained.
